Ceremony kicks off Core Works project at Brize

A ground-breaking event took place at RAF Brize Norton to mark the start of the new Core Works project. PriDE has commenced work on the new asset for 47 Air Despatch Squadron, which is relocating from RAF Lyneham. The large facility will incorporate Operational and Training requirements, and will cost circa £23m. Brize Norton’s Station Commander, Group Capt Dom Stamp, got in the driving seat of the digger to start the ceremony. PriDE Project Manager, Gary Ashmore, is working closely with DIO’s Dennis Williams on this project, which is due for completion in October 2012.

Progress being made

The project, which will provide 9400sq m of offices, equipment storage and operational capacity and work, is progressing well to date. Nearly 50% of the main steel frame has been erected, major sections of the main floor slab have been cast and the project is running ahead of schedule. The team are working hard to get as far ahead as possible in case of prolonged extreme winter weather, which could delay work.
