RAF High Wycombe gets state of the art kitchens

Delivery

A state of the art kitchen facility to serve over 200 Senior Non-Commissioning Officers Mess and Junior Ranks personnel, as well as additional car parking.

Innovation

Having already worked on the Defence Food Services Wing at Worthy Down, the team was aware of the latest kitchen technologies available and used this knowledge in the delivery of the new kitchens. Ultra violet light treats the extracted air, allowing clean and odour free air into the atmosphere.

Added Value

Two Food Waste Digester installations mean that the food waste should no longer be sent to landfill and state of the art equipment was purchased, significantly increasing the kitchen’s capabilities.

Background

The kitchens to serve this facility were in desperate need of upgrade. The existing kitchen and a two-storey accommodation building had to be demolished to make way for the improvements and in order to maintain operation, a temporary kitchen was installed for the construction period. A number of surveys identified HV cabling underneath the original building, but could not indicate the volume. The cabling had to be shut down whilst it was diverted, and the entire site ran smoothly on generators for eight weeks.
