PriDE manages Defence Estates’ South East Regional Prime Contract (SE RPC). Valued at around £380m, the SE RPC is one of five regional prime contracts currently in place in the UK.

Site: Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre Headley Court

Project: Rehabilitation Complex

Rehab Complex improves the lives of injured soldiers

Delivery

A Rehabilitation Complex comprising a gymnasium, Regional Rehabilitation Complex (RRU), Centre for Injury Research (CIRCA), a five-lane 25m swimming pool with moveable floor to change the depth, jacuzzi, current jets and aqua jogger, as well as a cardiovascular suite.

Innovation

Before works began, PriDE held an open day for suppliers and contractors to visit Headley Court and encourage them to give best value to the project. Goodwill added value through extensive discounting of materials and services, fundraising from Help for Heroes and excellent co-operative working throughout. This is an exemplary project in respect of attitude and team cohesion.

The building is surrounded by a Listed wall, a feature of the landscaping and gardens within Headley Court. Extensive work was carried out to protect and preserve this wall, and the construction operation was planned in great detail to ensure that each operation would receive all access, given the tight perimeter.

Added Value

From the outset it was agreed that quality of the end product needed to be exceptional. Design and workmanship of the project has ensured that the facility has the wow factor of a first-class facility.

Background

DMRC Headley Court is a tri-service military unit set in 87 acres of Surrey Green Belt. The unit specialises in the treatment of military patients with complex trauma, brain and spinal injury and a wide-range of musculo-skeletal and rheumatologic conditions. Patients are treated through intensive and comprehensive residential programmes which support them in reclaiming function, mobility and independence, and wherever possible, the fitness levels required to resume active service.

Headley Court is a unique, key national facility which performs a vital role in supporting injured personnel. PriDE has been working to improve the facilities on site, including the creation of the new complex. This allows DMRC to carry out a number of functions in one locations and removes the need to use off site, public facilities. It provides a unit which is modern, sustainable and complements the character of the site and the existing buildings.
