Junior Ranks Single Living Accommodation
gets a refurbishment

Delivery

The refurbishment of ablutions and communal areas within Junior Ranks Single Living Accommodation, delivered courtesy of Soldier First funding.

Innovation

Based on the first phase of work, the remainder of this project was estimated to cost £1.2m. However, PriDE retendered and the price was reduced to £1m, leaving an outstanding sum to be recycled elsewhere on the site. The money was used to give added value by providing tangible improvements to various messes and buildings. The TV systems in the Officers and Sergeants messes were upgraded, giving satellite signals for the first time. Ablutions areas were redecorated, replacement windows fitted and partial decoration was also funded.

Added Value

In the ablution areas, void panelling was removed and replaced with robust, water resistant boarding.

£1 million over 6 months

Background

In 2008 Estate Improvement Funding was used to refurbish the living space in 12 accommodation blocks, impacting the lives of 400 soldiers based in the barracks. There was insufficient funding available to refurbish the communal area, but through Soldier First in this financial year, the money was made available to complete the project. The work was carried out following a rolling programme over a six month period, with completed blocks being handed over every two to three weeks.
