Project: Woodhouse – 58-Bed Space Accommodation Block

PriDE provides a modular building solution to deal with staff increase

Delivery

Fully functional, modern, two-storey living accommodation providing 58 bed spaces to cope with the increased number of staff required at site. The rooms have en-suite facilities as well as multi-media access. The block was to be delivered within 50 weeks.

Innovation

High quality Mess facility constructed sympathetically with the adjacent existing accommodation.

The use of a modular building means the whole structure can be completely recycled after use and utilised in another area.

Added Value

The design was enhanced to accommodate disabled and ambulant personnel and patients. 52 standard bed spaces and six additional rooms were designed to fully comply with the Disability Discrimination Act, with a nurse call system, making these rooms accessible to patients of varying abilities.

Background

The Headley Court establishment is subject to considerate political pressure as it is instrumental in providing support for the increasing number o military personnel requiring specialist rehabilitation.

The site location itself is particularly sensitive, set in a designated Green Belt area and therefore requiring extensive planning liaison. As the chosen building location for this project is adjacent to the perimeter fencing, the Local Planning Authority required the building to be pitch roofed and to appear temporary in nature.

As the project progressed it became clear that the building would best facilitate the site if it could be utilised by staff and patients; the design was then enhanced to provide six rooms suitable for those with a disability.
